Samba Blues Trio

The Samba Blues Trio

Forged in the shared rhythms of distant streets, The Samba Blues Trio blends the deep sorrow of Delta blues with the swinging cadence of São Paulo samba. Their sound was born from a transatlantic exchange between DJ Garrincha, digging through vinyl crates in St. Louis’ blues clubs, and Renato Gama, picking melodies on his guitar in Vila Nhocuné’s viela em dia de lua—where the moonlight turns the alley into a stage for whispered stories and unsung songs.

Out of these late-night conversations came “Samba Blues”, a raw, swaying testament to how Black resistance and joy echo across hemispheres. The trio’s music drips with bottleneck slides and the ghost of field hollers, but its pulse is pure samba—the kind that rattles window shutters and pulls neighbors into the street to dance.

Whether howling over a Chicago shuffle or locking into a Partido Alto groove, their sound is a living argument: the Mississippi and the Rio Tietê sing the same truth, just in different tongues. The Samba Blues Trio doesn’t just play roots music—they rewrite the map.

New vinyl Bugiganga Tropical Vol.4 Cotton out soon.

Lyrics:

Samba Blues (Renato Gama)
